A Place In My Heart. Chapter 1
'Congratulations class of 2008!' And with that, I finished my speech in front of the whole senior class, school staff, and parents. As I said these final words, all my classmates tossed their blue hats over the air and screamed, showing their happiness of finally getting out of this jail some call 'St. George High School'. 'Nessa! Nessa!' I heard a lot of familiar voices calling after me. When I turned around, I saw my whole crew: Samantha Smith was the first one I saw- my best friend since Barney. Following her, were the twins Laura and Maura Divacci, best buds Albert Miller and Alex Collins, Peter Perkins with girlfriend Amanda White. This is my crew; the people I love the most, my true friends. They all had their arms wide open. 'Uh-oh' I muttered to myself. This was never a good sign. This means group hug- a minute without breathing. 'I--cant--breathe!' I complained after a minute. They all started to laugh as if I made a good one. 'What!?' I exclaimed, confused. 'We love to see your face when you cant breathe, you turn all purple,' Alex made fun of me, pointing my face with his index finger. 'Hey! Stop making fun of my face,' I demanded, and then bit his finger that was pointing me, 'Keep making fun of me, and Ill make fun of you when I leave you jumping in one leg.' 'Ok lets leave the animal thingy for later,' Sam said trying to chill things out. 'Who's coming over today?' 'Me!' Everyone shouted, raising their hands as if they were little kids hurrying to answer a question for 5 extra points at class. 'Wait-- I need to use the bathroom,' I interrupted. 'Run before you pee in your pants!' Alex yelled while I ran. 'Ill laugh at you much sooner than what I imagined!' I yelled back, still running to the bathroom- I really needed to go. As I went out, I felt a pair of strong arms wrapping me from behind, and turning around I saw the man I love the most. 'Daddy!' I screamed with excitement as I wrapped my arms around his neck. 'Hey little princess, you gave an excellent speech,' he congratulated me as he flashed his white perfect teeth, 'Im so proud of you,' he added and stared at me with those green eyes I inherited. 'Thanks daddy,' I smiled, 'so wheres mom?' He looked down to his feet. 'Im sorry honey, she had an important meeting, she couldnt make it.' It wasnt a surprise for me. Mom never had time for me. She had those high society meetings every time.. 'Yeah, yeah, whatever' I finally said. 'So what did you get for me?' 'A private jet.' We both looked at each other and giggled at the same time. I know it wasnt for real, but we can afford as many as we want. 'It's a surprise,' he finally said. 'Damn dad! You know I hate surprises! The wonder kills me,' I complained. 'Haha. I'll see you in the house baby,' he said as he leaned down to give me a kiss on the cheek, 'You're smaller today,' he added. 'Oh no. Im 5'6, I'm normal, you're too tall!' I replied, but he was already walking towards his Audi. 'See you at Sam's!' I heard Albert yelling at me. As almost everyone was gone, I went to the parking lot and headed for my gray Mercedes. When I was opening the drivers door, my cell phone vibrated from inside my purse and made me jump. I took my iPhone out: a new text message from Teresa. 'Ughhh!' I protested as I read it. Hey Vanessa, what are you doing tonight? :) I know that you have a lot of friends but maybe I thought that you will like to have some dinner at my place with some of my friends. Maybe we can have a sleepover! I really hope you come, without you theres no fun. Aww. Poor girl. She wants to get together with me, how cute! But I have better things to do. I'll better give her the best excuse ever. Teresa, I would like to go, but I cant! Sam's dog, Brett, died yesterday and I have to go to his funeral, you know Im always there for Sam. Sorry. Maybe next time. Hmm not that bad. Im getting better at excuses. I set the engine to life and drove to where destiny told me to.
