Carole Rome (born October 20, 1969) is a fundraiser, businesswoman and the fiancee of Florida Governor Charlie Crist. As her prospective husband is on John McCain's short list of running mates for as Vice President, she is also in the running to be the Second Lady of the United States.
Childhood, education and career
She was born Carole Oumano, the youngest of five children, and grew up in Roslyn, New York[1]. Her father, Robert Oumano, owned Franco-American Novelty Company, an importer of practical joke items and Halloween costumes. In 1991, she graduated from Georgetown University with a BS in Business Administration. She worked briefly for the accounting firm Arthur Andersen and for The Corcoran Group, a real estate firm. In 1993 she married Todd Rome, who became the president of a private jet company.
When her father passed away in 2000, she ran Franco-American for the next six years. She coined the slogan "Where Fashion Meets Halloween" and changed the focus of the company to more figure flattering high fashion costumes.
Divorce and engagement
In 2006, she handed control of Franco-American to her sister Michele Oumano Powell. She moved to Florida and shortly thereafter filed for a divorce from her husband.
Carole Rome met Charlie Crist at an Italian Restaurant in New York City in October 2007. Five months later he introduced her as his "girlfriend" and on July 3, 2008 he proposed to her. [2] Their wedding is scheduled for 12 Dec 2008. [3]
