Guitar Praise is a Christian rhythm video game for PC. Published by Digital Praise, it utilizes contemporary Christian music to promote positive lyrics, but currently only supports its own USB guitar controllers. This game is similar to the guitar mode in Heavenly Harmony, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band. A second guitar can be connected for two player modes. The games can be played on a computer running either Windows or Mac OS X.

Features
Guitar Praise includes several features from other guitar games.
Multiplayer
This game features the ability to play with either one or two players. Both players can choose to play the same track, or one can play lead and the other can play bass.
Lyrics
While playing guitar, the lyrics of the song show up as plain white text. The audience can sing along the music, making this a karaoke game to some degree. The guitar player may sing and play simultaneously.
Online ranking
This game supports online high scores.[2]

Expansion Packs and Future Plans
Digital Praise has confirmed that expansion packs will be released in the future, “in the spring or summer of next year", which allows more songs to be added to the list.[3] The only confirmed artist so far is Stryper.
The game has sold so well that the company is even considering expanding it with things such as a full drum kit and microphone. “That’s definitely been part of our discussions,” CEO Tom Bean said. “We’ve invested a lot of time and energy in creating this game, and if it’s compelling then we’ll consider our next steps in that direction.” Bean said that Digital Praise, whose games have only been for the PC/Mac, may expand to consoles one day. “Our customers have been begging us to create console games. You have your Xbox 360 fans, your PS3 fans, but we get a lot for the Wii. We’d like to be able to go there but we’ll see.”[4]
Technical Problems
Guitar Praise is only currently available on the Mac/PC home computers. ICE reports that Digital Praise intended to release the game on consoles but according to Pete Fokos: "We would love to put this on consoles but so far the console makers have not allowed us to participate." ICE stated their opinion that the reason for this is that "publishers see Christian games in general as too big a financial risk."[5]
This causes trouble to those who wish to play using a television set, as the only current method to do so involves connecting a video cable between the computer and the TV. [6] Also, an adapter and audio cables are required to use the television speakers. [7]
Digital Praise is working on a website to help people hook their computers to their TV, which is available at www.hookpctotv.com
According to one reviewer "[t]he game does support widescreen 1280x720 resolution if your computer/monitor allows it. Playing this game on a widescreen monitor will cause the image to stretch with non-widescreen resolution, which is unfortunately what I was limited to with my S-Video output. I do not know if the positioning of the interface objects is modified to adjust to widescreen or not."[5]
No compatibility with other guitar controllers from Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or even third party controllers is supported by these other games.[5]
Reception
Guitar Praise: Solid Rock has exceeded expectations and pleased many Christian fans according to news reports. The game has far exceeded selling expectations, but according to icepowered.com, the game is selling faster than inventory is available. The developers at Digital Praise are hoping to provide Christian retailers with a stock of the game in time for Christmas 2008.[4]
MTV Multiplayer's verdict is that Guitar Praise "is no doubt a slick and surprisingly competent “Guitar Hero” knock-off aimed at the game-playing Christian market; Digital Praise seems to embrace that fact instead of trying to re-invent the music game genre. And aside from the specifically Christian-themed music, there was no overt religious imagery or tones within the game that I noticed."[8]
CMSpin thought that "Guitar Praise is a great game that didn’t disappoint me in the least. It’s a game for any age and if you can set it up in a family area, everyone can get involved because of the adjustable skill levels. Both beginners and experts will have fun with this product. I was very impressed with the music selection. It is wonderful to finally be able to play a game like this to the music I enjoy."[9]
PluggedIn Online concluded that "yes, Guitar Praise is indeed a Guitar Hero clone. Only this clone is better than the original. The controller is just as solid and usable, the game is just as much fun, the mechanics and onscreen displays are just as accessible and the songs are ... well, like I said before, wahoo![10]
ICE gave the game a 7 out of 10, summarizing their thoughts by calling Guitar Praise "[a] “rock-solid” product that can stand up with the competition. While some of the problems were downers overall the game was quite fun. Throw the goat, not the goat cheese all you haters!"[5]
Stars and Stripes says that "[d]eveloper Digital Praise obviously has an idea that strikes a chord with Christian youth and a few tweaks would make this a popular item. Even as it is, it’s fun — just not as fun as the others. However, I suspect a lot of parents and youth leaders will be happy to check it out."[11]
Wired magazine notes that "Christian rock has joined the guitar videogame craze, introducing a new demographic to the joys of guitar-based videogaming without exposing devout would-be rock stars to the racier elements of Guitar Hero."[12]

so, i performed at the dinner as well... uhh... okay, i was mad nervous & i totally rushed the beginning intro, and i am soo sorry. however, i am alive and praise God for putting this song in my heart & giving me the courage to stand up on stage in front of like 200 peeps. i of course, have to thank my two friends liz & maxine, aka maxwellc0ffeehouse, for being there as well; they are truly a blessing to have in my life.
