Contents

High school career

Randolph grew up in Marion, Indiana and attended Marion High School, where his coach was Moe Smedley. Zach was mentored by Craig Moore, a teacher at Marion, since he was 12. They are still great friends today. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Marion Giants to the class 4A championship game. As a senior, he again led his team to the state championship game in which Marion High School won its seventh state basketball championship. He finished second in Indiana's 'Mr. Basketball' voting that year, closely behind Jared Jeffries, who coincidentally played for the team that the Giants beat in the state championship game that year and would later become Randolph's teammate with the Knicks.

College career

As a high school senior, Randolph agreed to attend and play basketball for the Michigan State University Spartans, coached by Tom Izzo. His teammates at MSU included Jason Richardson and Charlie Bell. After his freshman season he entered the 2001 NBA Draft.

NBA career

Portland

He was drafted by the Blazers in the first round (19th overall) in 2001. He plays the power forward position. In 2004 he won the NBA's Most Improved Player award, after which he signed a 6-year, 84-million dollar extension with the Blazers. Randolph averaged 23.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game in the 2006-07 season, which was cut short in March 2007 due to a hand injury. In his final game as a Trail Blazer, he had 43 points and 17 rebounds.

New York

On June 28, 2007, Randolph, along with Dan Dickau, Fred Jones and draft rights to Demetris Nichols, were traded to the Knicks in a draft day deal for Steve Francis, Channing Frye, and a 2008 2nd round draft pick.[1] On July 2, 2007, Randolph was introduced at a press conference in New York[2], where he revealed he will wear the jersey #50.

Los Angeles Clippers

On November 21, 2008, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers along with Mardy Collins in exchange for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas.[3] Randolph led the Knicks with 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds. The Clippers could not suit up Randolph and Collins against the New Orleans Hornets on because of some red tape involving the results of the physicals taken by Thomas and Mobley following the trade.[4]

Clippers vs. Mavericks 1/6/09 GAME RECAP

The Mavericks stampede the Clippers 107-102. DALLAS (AP)—Dirk Nowitzki made the game-saving plays on both ends of the court for the Dallas Mavericks. That was the easy part for the star forward. Just dont ask the frustrated Nowitzki to explain how the Mavericks even got into the position that his blocked shot and go-ahead jumper were needed in the final minute against the short-handed and hurting Los Angeles Clippers. Terrible. We had a good lead and we let up, Nowitzki said. They got whatever they wanted offensively. We couldnt get any stops. Until Nowitzki, who had 34 points, blocked a shot and then scored with 37 seconds remaining in a 107-102 victory Tuesday night. Dallas got started with its highest-scoring quarter of the season and had an 18-point lead before halftime against the Clippers, who had only eight players in uniform because of numerous lingering injuries and a suspension. This was a feisty Clippers team, Josh Howard said. More than an hour before the game, coach Rick Carlisle was trying to convince reporters—and certainly his own players—that it would not be an easy game. And the Mavericks made sure it wasnt against Los Angeles, whose NBA-worst losing streak is now at eight games. Dallas needed a game-ending 11-1 run to avoid being upset at home, finally going ahead to stay on Nowitzkis high-arching 11-footer after he had blocked rookie Eric Gordons driving layup attempt at the other end. Gordon, who scored 32 points, had a turnover on the next possession when the ball was knocked from his hands by Jason Kidd—though the rookie and his coach both thought there was a foul on the play. Im not even going to comment on that, Gordon said diplomatically. We just lost, Im not going to worry about it. We had them and we couldnt close it out. The Clippers have gone multiple games without the injured Baron Davis (bruised tailbone), Zach Randolph (left knee), Mike Taylor (right thumb) and Chris Kaman (left knee). Plus, Ricky Davis served the second of his five-game NBA suspension for violating the leagues drug policy. Im really proud of our guys, how hard they played and what they did, coach Mike Dunleavy said. A couple of bounces didnt go our way, a couple of calls didnt go our way and the Mavericks pulled one off. Los Angeles, coming off a one-point loss at home against Detroit two days earlier, led the Mavs for the first time since the opening 2 minutes of the game when Mardy Collins hit a 3-pointer to make it 95-93 with 6:38 left. Jose Barea then made a 3-pointer to put Dallas back in front, but Al Thornton made three consecutive baskets, two layups before his 24-foot jumper put the Clippers up 101-95 with 2:39 left. That was Los Angeles last field goal. We stopped believing (in moral victories) a long time ago, said Thornton, who finished with 25 points. We just need to learn how to close games out. Nowitzki hit a 3-pointer, then Josh Howard scored before Nowitzki blocked Gordons shot. Howard had 22 points, while Brandon Bass had 13. Collins, who liked Gordon played more than 45 minutes, had 17 points for Los Angeles. Los Angeles Clippers forward Al Thornton (12) shoots over Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard in the second half of an NBA basketball game in Dallas, Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009. The Mavericks won 107-102. Los Angeles Clippers forward A AP - Jan 7, 12:05 am EST The Mavs highest-scoring quarter of the season had them up 37-22 when Jason Terry and Howard hit consecutive 3-pointers at the end of the first to cap a 15-2 spurt. Nowitzki scored 10 in an early 12-0 run that push the Mavericks in front to stay until late. Gordon scored the final nine points for the Clippers in the first half, including two free throws in the final second after being fouled on an inbound play to get Los Angeles within 64-54 after being fouled on an inbound play. Dallas threw the ball away on an inbound play with 0.8 seconds left. Devean George, put in for defense and making his only appearance of the game, wrapped his arm around Gordon and was called for a foul. The way the first half ended was really sort of a microcosm of the game. Just very poor execution on our part, Carlisle said. The latter part of the second quarter was our undoing because we gave them life. And then we were poor. Notes The Mavs, coming off a 20-point loss at Memphis, have played 25 games without back-to-back losses. Their only losing streak this season was five in a row from Nov. 7-14. Gordon finished with his fifth consecutive 20-point game. He had his second consecutive career-high scoring night, after 31 against Detroit.

LeBron James 26 points vs NY Nov 25 2008 rumors free agent 2010 New York Knicks

NEW YORK(AP) The Knicks have two years to convince LeBron James they can be a title contender. His Cleveland Cavaliers showed New York they might be one right now. James scored 26 points before sitting out the fourth quarter, and the Cavaliers quickly took a charged-up New York crowd out of the game in a 119-101 victory Tuesday night. The buzz was about James' future. His teammates have big goals for the present. "They don't get caught up in that, man, and I don't either,'' James said. "We hear it every day, we see it every day on TV about 2010 all the time, we still go out and take care of business. We don't worry about what's going on. Me the leader, I can't let that faze me because I'm leading these guys onto something that we want to accomplish, and that's win an NBA championship.'' Delonte West added 16 points and Wally Szczerbiak had 15 for the Cavaliers, who led by as many as 34. They rang up their highest point total of the season and put seven players in double figures, showing they may have more help than ever for James, the NBA's leading scorer. Fans hoping someday to see James play in New York got to learn how good his Cleveland team is right now. The Cavaliers turned it into a blowout while James was enjoying his first rest to start the second quarter, and improved the NBA's third-best record to 11-3. "It seems like they want him, but right now we're excited that he's a Cavalier,'' guard Daniel Gibson said. Quentin Richardson scored 22 points and newcomer Tim Thomas had 16 for the Knicks, who lost for the fourth time in five games and fell to 7-7. James' first visit to Madison Square Garden this season came just days after the Knicks made a pair of trades that cleared enough salary cap space for a potential run at him in free agency in the summer of 2010. After starting the night by saying he was flattered by the attention but focused on trying to win a title this season with the Cavs, James witnessed how far the Knicks have to go before they can convince James he'd have a chance to win a championship here. "It's way too early,'' Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We hate it for tonight, but it's only tonight.'' Unlike his previous visit, when the Cavaliers needed nearly all of his 50 points to beat the Knicks last March, an ordinary effort was good enough from James, who laughed and smiled throughout the easy victory. The Knicks are a team in transition after trading Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford, their two leading scorers, last Friday. Making matters worse, they lost Nate Robinson, who became their leading scorer, after he strained his groin in the second quarter. He is doubtful for Wednesday at Detroit. "I'll be back in no time,'' Robinson said. "I'm not the kind of guy who wants to sit here and be hurt. I hate it.'' Al Harrington, acquired from Golden State for Crawford, had only one full practice. Thomas and Cuttino Mobley, who came over from the Clippers, haven't had any practice time yet, and Mobley still isn't available while undergoing further tests for a medical condition that turned up on his physical. James was cheered loudly during pregame introductions by a crowd that included his buddy, rapper Jay-Z - who might prefer James goes to New Jersey, the team he partly owns - and every time he touched the ball in the early minutes. James then scored 11 points in the first quarter, leading Cleveland to a 34-22 lead. James could only chuckle and shake his head when a fan yelled "Two more years!'' as he was putting on his warmup shirt before heading to the bench for the start of the second quarter. Then the Cavs really turned it on. Cleveland scored the first eight points of the period, and after Thomas made two free throws, the Cavs followed with a 13-2 spurt to make it 55-26 on Szczerbiak's 3-pointer with 7:20 left in the period. Fans started booing the Knicks after consecutive turnovers during that stretch, and by the time James re-entered his team was ahead by 24. The Cavs led 67-38 at the break, their highest-scoring first half of the season. James drew a big cheer for a powerful, fast-break dunk with 4:10 left in the third and scored 13 points in the quarter, but by then the fans were mostly disinterested as Cleveland's lead ballooned to 34. He nailed a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left in the period, and his hardest work the rest of the night was dancing during a fourth-quarter timeout.
